To act morally right in practice is an important mindset that you dare to doubt at times that matter. That you dare to question how you judge and make decisions. That you take a step back, for example in case of an ethical dilemma, and take the time to investigate your first reaction or conclusion. It may be that your initial assessment of a situation is not right.
But let’s be honest: how often do you really allow doubt and consciously consider how you judge and make decisions? Do you know that everyone – including you! – is inclined to make fallacies in his or her judgement?

The course material consists of text, downloads, videos, quotations and considerations. In the Ethics Challenge, you are asked for your opinion and how you would act in certain situations. Going through the course material will take about 2 hours. At the end of each section you’ll be offered a number of trial questions which you can use to test whether you have understood the course material correctly. You can interrupt the training at any time. To resume the training simply log in again and click on the ‘Continue’ button.
The training ends with an exam. This exam consists of 25 multiple choice questions. You will be given a maximum of 30 minutes to answer these questions. To succeed, you must answer at least 75% of the questions correctly. After the exam you will immediately see whether you have passed. Your score per section will also be shown. If you passed the exam, you will immediately receive the CPE certificate by email (worth three CPE credits). If you did not pass the exam, you may take the exam again, but no more than twice.
What reasoning errors do I unconsciously make in making judgements?
My moral intuition and step by step to moral judgement
Ethics challenge!
Give a voice to your values!
During this training, you will work on your knowledge and skills to be able to act morally correct. We take you into a world of mental rules of thumb and fallacies in your judgement. We then consider the limitations of your moral intuition.
What is morally right cannot be determined without looking at situations from different points of view. We help you with this by providing a few tools in this training in the form of a step-by-step plan and practical key tests.
Then we make the step to practice. Ethical dilemmas in relation to the code of ethics of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) can manifest themselves in all sorts of forms and sizes. In order to (further) strengthen your moral intuition and ability to make moral judgements, you will be presented with a number of practical examples in this training. Let yourself be inspired by discussing these and other practical examples with your work and professional colleagues.
In order to distinguish fallacies from good arguments in conversations with others and to increase your professional impact if you show moral courage, we offer you a number of useful answers to common rationalisations during this training. In addition, you will learn different strategies to give a voice to your values.
The training consists of four sections:
1. What reasoning errors do I unconsciously make in making judgements?
2. My moral intuition and step by step to moral judgement
3. Ethics challenge!
4. Give a voice to your values!
This course is part of the complete moral fitness programme voor internal auditors — helping professionals to recognise moral dilemmas, form well-reasoned moral judgements, and act accordingly. We encourage you to explore Part I and Part III of this programme as well, to continue building your ethical awareness and professional resilience.
